- Giuseppe Santomaso was represented at the Venice Biennale several times during his lifetime and exhibited three times at the documenta in Kassel in the 1950s and 1960s. - In the 1970s, when the work offered here was created, Santomaso was honored with extensive solo exhibitions at, among others, the Fondacio Joan Miró in Barcelona and the Staatsgalerie Moderner Kunst in Munich. - While the paintings of the 1950s and 1960s were still characterized by a powerful informal expression and free, graphic forms, architectural and constructive elements increasingly predominated in these creative years. - Today, the artist's fascinating works are part of major museum collections, including the Museum Reinhard Ernst, Wiesbaden, the Buffalo AKG Art Museum, New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York.
