According to Mr. Chivot, the sketch is likely one of several preparatory drawings for Madame Weil and her Children (catalogue raisonné no. XI-103). Juliette Weil was the wife of Prosper-Emile Weil, a famous hematologist in France and in Europe, and brother of the French novelist and dramatist Romain Coolus.
