Détails du Lot
Late 17th Century Follower of Isack van Ostade (Dutch, 1621-1649) Farmhouse interior with farm animals and figures at work Brown ink and gray wash on paper 4-3/8 x 7-7/8 inches (11.1 x 20.0 cm) (sheet) Property from the William A. Glaser Collection PROVENANCE: Private collection, Paris; Acquired by the present owner from the above, circa 1968. Dr. Bernhard Schnackenburg, expert on Adriaen and Isack van Ostade, wrote an informative letter on June 6, 1983 to William Glaser, who had asked his opinion on this drawing of a farmhouse interior. Although he rejected the sheet as the work of Isack van Ostade, Schnackenburg thanked Glaser for sharing the drawing with him because he said he had never seen it before. He told Glaser that his sheet was a copy of an original drawing by Isack listed as No. 430 in his catalogue (Adriaen von Ostade / Isack van Ostade: Zeichnungen und Aquarelle, vol. I, Hamburg, 1981, p. 163; illustrated in black and white, vol. II, fig. 430, whereabouts unknown). He added that another copy of No. 430 was in the Louvre (inv. no. RF 29057) and wrote: "Your drawing is closely related to the Louvre drawing and was probably created at the same time or a little later in the 17th century. Some details match, especially the landscape format, where the upper part of the roof is missing. There are a number of similar paintings by Isack, but I have not found any with the same composition."
