Justin Locke (American, ) Twilight at Paricutin, Mexico, circa1940s Blue-toned gelatin silver exhibition print. 15-3/8 x 19-3/8 inches (39.0 x 49.1 cm) (image/sheet) 16 x 20 inches (mount) Signed and titled in pencil, mount recto. Signed, titled, and 5 with affixed Camera Club labels, mount verso. Parícutin is a cinder cone volcano that erupted in 1943 and 1952, forming a cone-shaped mountain with steep slopes in a cornfield in western Mexico. Blue toned print on matte paper, trimmed to edges and mounted on thick board. Minor scuffs/abrasions, fine scratches, small areas of retouching etc. across surface; traces of oxidation in darker areas; minor edge chipping -- all visible in a raking light or under close inspection. Board mount very worn at corners and edges, not affecting the image. Camera club labels affixed on verso very fresh and bright. A wonderful exhibition print by a little-known photographer, in good/very good condition overall. Sold matted and unframed.
