A Teke Fetish Democratic Republic of Congo, c. late 19th to early 20th century The wood figure has a fetish bundle around torso, but the entire body is completely wrapped in printed trade cloth. The head is delicately carved with classic Teke features, vertical scarification marks all over, wearing a crested cap. In good condition, appropriate for age, origin, use, and materials; minor scrapes and one small stable crack on brim of cap. Custom wood base. Provenance: Loiseaux et Zajega Galerie D'Art, Nivelles, Belgium Christie's, Paris, 10 December 2013. Lot 86 Collected by M.L.
