A Grasslands Helmet Mask Kom or related people, Cameroon, c. late 19th century Blackened wood helmet mask in form of a ram's head with elaborate scrolling spherical horns. It has a highly expressive face, with an open mouth showing tongue and teeth, white pigments at the eyes and teeth. In very good condition, surface of one tooth scraped, chip in lower jaw, crack at back of head. The whole with a rich shiny black encrusted surface from storage and handling.
