Three Kuba Cosmetic Boxes Democratic Republic of Congo, c. 20th century Each blackened wood in a crescent shape, lidded, with remains of red tukula pigment. One lid with eyebrows, eyes, and nose in high relief, surrounded by symbols of Kuba royalty; one lid with four horn shapes, geometric designs, and brass upholstery tacks; the third smaller lid with four horn shapes and a braided design. The sides of each also engraved with geometric designs symbolic of Kuba royalty. In good condition, the larger ones with cracks and losses on proper left corners, all with a dusty surface.
